Research

Throughout our research we have found that horror movies are particularly popular amongst males and under 25's. With over a third of a typical horror movie audience aged 18-24, they are a highly effective means of reaching an audience not afraid to go out at night.

After researching target audiences, I found out that horror films are mostly enjoyed by males than females. After further research as to why this is, I couldn’t find anything that explains that fact.
I feel that horror films mostly appeal to males as males are more prone to liking violence and the whole horror aspect of it. Stereotypically, females do not like violence; gore etc and the whole aspect of a horror movie would just create suspense and is more prone to frightening women than men. Of course the suspense of a horror movie is important to create the atmosphere but woman react to it differently to men.

In horror films, people look for violence and suspense to create a scary atmosphere, gore and horrific images to make it interesting but frightening, the setting is important as well as the colours and last but not least, scenes which make the audience jump.
